Choosing the right audible signal

The most suitable audible warning signal will depend on the environment, the required sound output, the sound frequency and the type of application.

Some devices are designed for very noisy environments, while others are better suited to local signalling, industrial use, fire alarm applications or wide area warning.

Understanding sound output over distance

The dB chart displays theoretical attenuation in perfect conditions in an open area without obstruction.

The sound frequency of the signal used will have a marked effect on the decibel reading at any given point. A much lower sound frequency will achieve a higher dB rating over longer distances, while a much higher sound frequency may achieve a lower dB rating over the same distance.
