How can I get technical support for a Moflash product?
Moflash provides technical support for customers, distributors, engineers and partners requiring assistance with product selection, installation, wiring, configuration or technical specifications.
For technical support, contact the Moflash Engineering team on 0121 440 5894 and select option 4, or email engineering@moflash.co.uk or technician@moflash.co.uk.
When contacting Moflash, please provide the product reference or part number and, where possible, details of the application, operating voltage and installation requirements. This helps our technical team provide the most appropriate advice.
How long does it take to dispatch a Moflash product that is in stock?
For products that are in stock, UK orders are normally dispatched within 1–2 working days.
Same-day collection is available for customers who choose to collect their order directly from Moflash rather than have it shipped.
However, the majority of Moflash products are built to order, so lead times can vary depending on the product, configuration and current production schedule.
For confirmation of current stock availability and the expected dispatch or production lead time, please contact the Moflash sales team before placing your order.
Can I collect my Moflash order directly?
Yes. Customers can collect Moflash orders directly from the Birmingham facility if they prefer not to pay for delivery.

How to buy our products? UK Sales
Moflash products can be purchased directly from Moflash UK Sales or through our network of authorised UK distributors, wholesalers and distribution partners.
Direct purchases from Moflash
UK customers can purchase Moflash products directly from Moflash. If you have not traded with Moflash previously, your first order will normally be processed on a proforma basis.
To place an order, you must provide a purchase order or written confirmation by email confirming the products you wish to purchase. Moflash will then issue a proforma invoice for payment.
For UK customers, payment can be made by BACS or credit card. Where an order is placed on a proforma basis, any quoted lead time starts once cleared payment has been received.
UK distributors and wholesalers
Moflash also works with a network of UK national distributors, wholesalers and major electrical and industrial distribution companies, providing customers with alternative ways to purchase Moflash products.
Our distribution network includes established distributors such as RS Components and Farnell, as well as national wholesale partners.
Moflash reserves the right to refer an enquiry to an appropriate UK distributor or wholesaler depending on the nature and value of the enquiry.

How to buy our products? Export Sales
Direct Purchase: The option to purchase Moflash products in overseas territories directly is subject to non-exclusive agreements being in place in the territory in question.
Opening a Sales Account: To open a Moflash sales account, which will be completed via an application process, is subject to director approval.
Export Distribution: Moflash works closely with a global distribution network comprising of local territory distributors and also global distribution companies such as RS Components and Farnell Electronics.

What payment methods does Moflash accept?
Moflash accepts BACS payments and credit card payments for eligible UK customer accounts.
Credit card payment is available for UK accounts only. Payment terms and available payment methods may vary depending on the customer’s account and order.

What CAD file formats are available for Moflash products?
STEP files can be used by engineers, designers and system integrators for 3D modelling, equipment layout, installation planning and mechanical integration.
CAD files are available through the Moflash Resource Centre and on the relevant product page. If a CAD file is not available in either of these locations, this means that a CAD file is currently not available for that product.

Where can I find Moflash installation instructions?
Moflash installation instructions are available as downloadable PDF documents for applicable products.

What is the difference between Moflash and Clifford & Snell?
Moflash and Clifford & Snell are two established signalling brands within Moflash Signalling Ltd.
Clifford & Snell was established in 1929 and has a long history in industrial audible and visual signalling. The brand was acquired and integrated into the Moflash Group in 2019, bringing together two established names in the signalling industry.
Moflash offers a broad portfolio of LED and xenon beacons, electronic sounders, sounder/beacons and other signalling products across industrial, hazardous area, fire, marine and wide area applications. Clifford & Snell has a strong heritage in heavy-duty industrial and hazardous area audible and visual signalling.

How do I choose the right industrial warning beacon?
The right industrial warning beacon depends on the application, environment and type of visual warning required.

What is the difference between LED and xenon beacons?
LED and xenon beacons use different technologies to produce a visual warning signal.
LED beacons use solid-state LEDs and generally offer low power consumption, long operational life and rapid illumination. Xenon beacons use a gas-discharge flash tube to produce a traditional strobe effect and remain suitable for applications where xenon technology is specified or preferred.

What is a combined sounder beacon?
A combined sounder beacon is a signalling device that provides both an audible and visual warning from a single unit.
Combining a sounder and beacon can provide an effective warning where both audible and visual indication are required. What is a signal tower or stack light?
A signal tower, also known as a stack light or tower light, is a modular visual signalling device used to indicate machine or process status.
Different light colours or stages can be used to communicate operating conditions, warnings, faults or other machine states. Signal towers can also incorporate an audible signalling module where required.

What is the difference between a sounder, siren and buzzer?
Sounders, sirens and buzzers are different types of audible signalling devices used to communicate warnings, alarms or status conditions.
Electronic sounders can provide multiple selectable tones and are commonly used for industrial alarm and process applications. Sirens are generally designed to provide a high-output warning over a larger area. Buzzers are typically used for local audible indication.
The appropriate device depends on the required sound level, application, ambient noise, installation environment and certification requirements.
How do I choose the right industrial sounder?
The right industrial sounder depends on the required sound level, ambient noise, coverage area, tone requirements and installation environment.
Important selection criteria include sound pressure level in dB(A), operating voltage, number and type of available tones, IP rating, operating temperature and required certifications.
For hazardous areas, fire alarm systems or marine applications, the relevant product certification must also be considered.
How many tones can a Moflash electronic sounder produce?
Moflash electronic sounders can offer up to 32 selectable tones, depending on the product range.
These 32 tones provide a wide choice of alarm and warning signals for industrial applications. The selected tone can be used to identify a specific alarm, machine condition or process state.
On sounders with a 2-stage alarm function, the second-stage tone is normally predetermined in relation to the first-stage tone. This means that selecting the first tone automatically determines the corresponding second-stage tone.
The exact tone selection and alarm configuration depend on the specific sounder model.
What are 32-tone electronic sounders used for?
32-tone electronic sounders provide multiple selectable alarm tones for industrial warning and signalling applications.
Having a choice of 32 tones allows the sounder to be configured for different applications, alarm conditions or stages of a process. For example, different tones can be assigned to different machine states, warning conditions or emergency signals.

What is a 2-stage alarm on an electronic sounder?
A 2-stage alarm allows an electronic sounder to provide two different alarm stages using a first-stage and second-stage tone.
On standard 2-stage sounders, the second-stage tone is linked to the first-stage tone. When the first-stage tone is selected, the corresponding second-stage tone is automatically determined according to the sounder’s predefined tone configuration.
This allows the same sounder to provide different levels of warning, for example an initial warning followed by a higher-priority or emergency alarm.
Some Clifford & Snell sounders also offer an independently selectable second-stage option, depending on the model.
What is an independently selectable second-stage tone?
An independently selectable second-stage tone allows the installer or user to choose the second-stage tone separately from the first-stage tone.
On standard 2-stage sounders, selecting the first-stage tone automatically determines the associated second-stage tone. However, on certain 24V DC Clifford & Snell sounder models, an independently selectable second-stage option is available.
This gives the customer greater flexibility: they can select two different tones from the available tone library, choosing the first-stage tone and second-stage tone independently. This can be useful when two distinct alarm conditions need to be clearly differentiated.
The independently selectable second-stage function is only available on specific models, so the individual product datasheet should be checked to confirm compatibility.
Can Moflash customise signalling products?

A signal tower or stack light is commonly used to communicate machine status such as normal operation, warning or fault conditions. A beacon or combined sounder/beacon can be used where a more prominent visual or audible alarm is required.
The selection should consider machine control voltage, required colours, visibility, ambient noise, IP rating and installation environment.
What IP rating do I need for an outdoor warning beacon?
The required IP rating depends on the level of exposure to dust, water and other environmental conditions at the installation site.
An IP65-rated device provides dust-tight protection and protection against water jets. Higher levels of water protection may be required for applications exposed to more severe conditions.
The appropriate IP rating should always be selected according to the actual installation environment and the manufacturer’s specifications.
How does ambient noise affect sounder selection?
Ambient noise is an important factor when selecting an industrial sounder because the alarm must be sufficiently audible above the background noise.

What is an ATEX signalling device?
An ATEX signalling device is equipment certified for use in potentially explosive atmospheres within the scope of the ATEX regulatory framework.

What is the difference between ATEX and IECEx?
ATEX and IECEx are certification frameworks used for equipment intended for potentially explosive atmospheres, but they are not the same certification scheme.
ATEX is the European regulatory framework governing equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. IECEx is an international certification system based on applicable IEC standards.
Moflash offers products with ATEX and IECEx certification across its hazardous area signalling range, depending on the specific product.
What is the difference between Ex d and Ex i protection?
Ex d (Flameproof) and Ex i (Intrinsically Safe) are two different methods of protecting equipment used in hazardous areas.
Ex d, or Flameproof, uses a specially designed enclosure that is strong enough to contain an internal explosion and prevent it from igniting the surrounding atmosphere. The equipment inside the enclosure can contain electrical components capable of producing sparks or high temperatures, but the enclosure is designed to prevent ignition from escaping into the surrounding atmosphere.
Ex i, or Intrinsically Safe, limits the electrical energy available in the circuit so that sparks or heat cannot generate enough energy to ignite the surrounding explosive atmosphere under the specified conditions.
In simple terms:
- Ex d = contain the explosion
- Ex i = limit the available energy to prevent ignition
The appropriate protection method depends on the hazardous area classification, equipment certification and installation requirements.
Why do Ex i products require a Zener barrier or galvanic isolator?
Ex i (Intrinsically Safe) products require an appropriate intrinsically safe interface, such as a Zener barrier or galvanic isolator, to limit the electrical energy reaching the hazardous area.
A Zener barrier limits the voltage and current entering the intrinsically safe circuit and provides a controlled path for excess electrical energy to be safely diverted to earth.
A galvanic isolator provides the required energy limitation while also electrically isolating the hazardous-area circuit from the safe-area circuit.
In simple terms, the barrier or isolator acts as a safety interface between the safe area and the hazardous area, ensuring that the Ex i equipment cannot receive enough electrical energy to create an ignition source.
The correct barrier or isolator must be selected to match the Ex i equipment and the complete intrinsically safe circuit. The manufacturer’s certification and installation documentation should always be followed.
What is the difference between GRP and stainless-steel Ex signalling devices?
GRP and stainless steel provide different enclosure material options for hazardous area signalling equipment.
GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) can provide a lightweight and corrosion-resistant solution for many industrial environments. Stainless steel offers high mechanical strength and corrosion resistance and may be preferred for demanding or highly corrosive environments.

What is EN54-3?
EN54-3 is the European standard covering audible fire alarm devices, including fire alarm sounders.
